A Disease, A Physician, A Remedy (download)

From Jeremiah 8:22 “Is there no balm in Gilead; is there no physician there? why then is not the health of the daughter of my people recovered?”

There is a physical law as well as a moral law and God provided the means through the Levitical law to stay healthy. The problem, Jeremiah says, is that they refused the law and sin brought about a spiritual unhealthy people. They would not apply the balm, the remedy for their sickness.

Sin is a violation of the law, it is both hereditary and universal. Sin is the disease, but there is a physician and he has the remedy. Jesus, the great Physician, told Nicodemus that the only cure is for a new nature. “You must be born again.”

The two great symptoms Pastor Clendennen says, are being false to relations (including God) and false to one’s self. These two are bound up in this one thing, selfishness. Self is rebellion against God because of unbelief. Self must die, this alone is the remedy and Christ alone has the only cure. We must be born-again.
