“Awake thou that Sleepist!” Taken from Romans 13:11; I Corinthians 15:34 and Ephesians 5:14. Pastor Clendennen deals much with the parable of the Ten Virgins, those who grew careless and slumbered. Such it is with many Christians who are first awaken to their sinful condition only to be lulled to sleep by the deception of the world. These lost their first love, they grew weary in well-doing, became cold because of their love for the world, because iniquity now abounds in their lives.
The Church has fallen to sleep and has become oblivious to her spiritual surroundings; she is unaware of the dangers because her spiritual apathy, her eyes are too heavy to watch. Jesus said warns us, “Watch therefore, you know not the day or the hour”. Watch lest you are deceived and miss the coming of the Lord. Lest He should say to you, “Depart, for I know you not”.
A sobering message to the Church, it is a call to awaken out of sleep and prepare for the coming of the Lord.
