The Word Of God

"...for thou hast magnified thy word above all thy name" (Psalms 138:2)
This article's subject is such that I felt I should share from the only sufficient authority for its message, the Bible. My comments will be fewer in number.
We know the Scripture reveals and exalts the Name of Jesus. First, consider a few references about the Name of Jesus, of which His Word is magnified above. Acts 4:12 "...there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved." Philippians 2:9 says, "... God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name." John 14:13 reads, "...whatsoever ye shall ask in my name, that will I do..." Luke 10:17 "...even the devils are subject unto us through thy name." Acts 4:30 "... signs and wonders may be done by the name…" Matthew 1:21 "...thou shalt call his name JESUS: for he shall save his people from their sins." 1 Corinthians 6:11 "...ye are sanctified, but ye are justified in the name of the Lord Jesus..." Then in Mark 16:17, "And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues." From the Old Testament Jeremiah 10:6, "Forasmuch as [there is] none like unto thee, O LORD; thou [art] great, and thy name [is] great in might." Oh, the glory, the wonder, and the power of His Name.
And oh the glory, wonder, and power of His Holy Word. It is undefinable, inestimable, and wonderful. It is God. John 1:1 in part says, "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God." The Word in Hebrews 4:12 says, "For the word of God [is] quick, and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and [is] a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart." God asked through the prophet Jeremiah in chapter 23 and verse 29 "[Is] not my word like as a fire?..." John 17:17 declares, "Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth." Then Matthew 24:35 tells us, "Heaven and earth shall pass away, but my words shall not pass away." John 6:63 says "...the words that I speak unto you, [they] are spirit, and [they] are life." The prophet Isaiah said, "...the word of our God shall stand forever."
This topic is inexhaustible. John writes in chapter 21 and verses 25 of his book, "...I suppose that even the world itself could not contain the books that should be written," of and about the Lord.
I am greatly disturbed by the lack of reading and studying the Word of God in today's church life. Proverbs 21:2 is literally the way of the modern church, "Every way of a man is right in his own eyes..." God has pronounced in His Word how He will respond to this willful desire of man in Hosea 4:6 "My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge: because thou hast rejected knowledge, I will also reject thee, that thou shalt be no priest to me: seeing thou hast forgotten the law of thy God, I will also forget thy children." People of God wake up. Return to the Lord and His ways. We cannot afford the cost of failure. It's too great a loss.
Briefly, one last thought. In some churches, there is a practice of excluding the preaching of the Word for "spiritual" moves. I once had a gentlemen tell me that in their church, they went months with no preaching in their services because of a "move" of God. God only "works" or "moves" upon His Word. Where the seed of His Word is not sown, there is no fruit of the Spirit to spring forth. Return to reading, studying, and obeying all the truth of our Holy God.
