Mission Message (March 2022)
THE NAME ABOVE ALL NAMES
I begin this post with great carefulness. My subject is Deity, Who is eternal, beyond measure, indescribable, of which no human can do more than attempt to speak about Him. Jesus Christ, the Son of God. I pray that God will be pleased with my effort to share a few Biblical truths concerning His Son and that I will not mislead or speak falsely. For me, this is a significant undertaking. I hope everyone understands my heartfelt seriousness in speaking of Jesus.
Many people say Jesus was named by an angel based on Matthew 1:20-21. The angel announced His coming, but God named His Only Son. In Philippians 2:9-11, the Apostle Paul says of the naming of Jesus, “Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name: That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth; And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.”
In the Bible, the indescribable One is given titles and descriptions to help our human understanding. He is called or referred to as, Master, the Son of God, Son man, Son of David, Lamb of God, the Last Adam, Light of the World, the King of the Jews, Rabbi, Savior, the Chosen One, the I Am, Apostle, High Priest, Prophet Priest and King, Faithful and True, Alpha and Omega and the Morning Star. That is only a sampling of the revealed names and titles given concerning Jesus Christ.
One author said, “...Jesus is not some system of a doctrine about Him... or just what we believe concerning Him... The truth and testimony is what Jesus is...what He is in Himself in the eyes of God.” In Matthew 16:13-17, Jesus asked Peter “...Whom do men say that I am?” to which Peter answered, “Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God.” Jesus assured Peter this was a natural recognition of Him but was Divinely given by “...the Father which is in heaven.”
That is the only way to know Jesus Christ. As earlier stated in this post, it is not human understanding, beliefs, doctrines, and personal opinions. When a person asks of God to be given a true and Divine revelation of Jesus Christ, the Father Who is no respecter of persons (Romans 2:11). The never-failing promise of Jesus to everyone is in John 5:24 “Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life.”
In John 12:21, some people asked to see Jesus. According to the eternal Word of God, if anyone will, "Delight thyself also in the LORD; and he shall give thee the desires of thine heart” (Psalms 36:4).
We do not only want to know about Jesus; we want to
know Jesus.
