Ye Shall Be My Witnesses

In Acts 1:8, Jesus said, “...ye shall be my witnesses...” That is the Christians' call and mandate from God. We also have the great commission in Mark 16:15, “And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature.” Everyone that has witnessed to a lost soul has heard some of them say “I don’t understand it, or, I just can’t see it.” In reality, they are not being evasive, they really cannot see it or understand it. Jesus was the only One that could open physically blinded eyes, and only He can open eyes that are spiritually blind. Witnessing involves living as a testimony as seen in 2nd Corinthians 3:2 “Ye are our epistle written in our hearts, known and read of all men,” as well as speaking the Truth of Christ. We must pray for the lost that God will open their eyes, give life in place of death, enable them to hear, create within them a desire to understand, give them a hunger for Jesus, and then grant them faith to believe the gospel.

In short, as we prepare to share Christ with others, we must fervently pray that God will go before us. When we pray for the lost, we are saying to God, “You go first! If you don’t go first, all our efforts will be in vain.” Paul, speaking of this said in Ephesians 1:18, “The eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that ye may know what is the hope of his calling, and what the riches of the glory of his inheritance in the saints.”

We can, and must, pray. Pray without ceasing until our prayer has been answered. Many parents have children who are lost and headed for hell. That should be burden number one for all parents facing such loss, but the desire and burden of Christ also include our families and all peoples of the world that are outside of Christ. We cannot force them to be saved because we cannot command their hearts. But we can pray that God will open their eyes and their hearts.

All who are saved were made a new creature by His grace. Pray that God will open blinded eyes, remove hardened hearts, and then His Light will shine and a soul will be saved.
